Thai School Survey 2017

In total we surveyed 766 students from all over Thailand aged between 11 and 19 years. 21% of the students went to private, 79% to public schools. Around two third of the respondents were female.

Here are some key findings:

  • 70% like going to school, up 3% from 2016

  • 30% are certain that their school fails to prepare them for their future, up 44%

  • 45% reported that their teachers were offered good grades for “special favors”, which is a decrease of 13% from 2016. Of those students that reported such “special favors”, the following strategies were reported: be the favorite (71%), help with teachers' work (51%), join the teachers' private tutoring class (50%), pay money (16%), look pretty (15%) , offer sexual favors (4%), other ways (15%).

  • 50% reported to have been hit by a teacher last year, down 10%. The most popular spots remain the hands, followed by the butt and elsewhere. This goes in line with 77% who think it is not right when teachers are hitting students, up 21%

  • 35% said they are not practice speaking in English class, up 17%
